Medium: Multimedia

As a final assignment for the first semester of my senior year, I was tasked to create a time capsule. This was a collaboration between me and my classmates, and different elements were split among us. I created the box, a cyanotype, a linocut print, a bucket list, a letter to my future self, a miscellaneous project, and I contributed a few photos.

Medium: Pencil on paper

This piece is a still life capturing the essence of random yet meaningful objects. I spent many days shading and detailing the crystal and the many small pins in the pin cushion above the fish. Each object had unique qualities, so I used different pencils to capture their textures.

 This is a pencil drawing of a glass vase. The vase itself was very shiny and had many different textures, so I tried to capture that using shading, blending, and a combination of pencils. I attempted to add depth by creating a shadow and using different pressures with the pencils.

Medium: Multimedia on canvas

This was a mixed-media painting inspired by Mark Bradford. The story behind this work is to show how I am a reflection of the world around me. The materials I used were random but in a way, this reflects on the randomness of the world. I learned throughout this piece that art is about letting go. I did many layers, and there were parts of the piece that I really enjoyed that I ended up covering to create something new. The story behind this piece is ultimately that, sometimes you have to let go of beautiful things to allow for even better things to be created.

Medium: Appliqué

This piece is a banner for a school event. This is a quote said by Garnet in Episode 4, Season 4 of Steven Universe, “Mindful Education,” during the song “Here Comes A Thought”. This message is important to me because Steven Universe is one of my favorite shows and a show I based my core values on; I even wrote my personal statement on the show. This message is always helpful for me in times of need; whenever I am sad or angry, I can think of this quote and ground myself. I hope that others find comfort in it as well.

Medium: Collage

I was tasked to create a temporary sketchbook for art class at the beginning of the year. I decorated this book with colorful stringf and collage withe recycled pieces of paper and post-it notes with drawings on them. The words on the paper are lyrics from The Soul Eclectic by Chonny Jash (A parody of The Mind Electric by Miracle Musical)
